Where is the Earlobe Located?

The earlobe is a unique part of the ear. This is the only part of the Ear that does not have cartilage. Earlobe Piercings easily became a popular piercing. Your lobe is located on the lower fleshy part of the ear. Additionally, it is much thinner than the upper cartilage. The Lobe is easier to stretch than any other part of the Ear.

Initial Piercing

Getting an Ear Piercing involves a professional. They use a sterilized needle to create a hole in the Lobe. Afterward, jewelry pieces become inserted. Piercing studios get the best results for Piercings by using a gauged needle. It is best to avoid Piercing Guns. They are harsh on skin and in general are more painful. Finally, it can take anywhere from 6-8 weeks for your Earlobe Piercings to fully heal.

Sizing

Typical Earlobe Piercings remain pierced with a 20 gauge (0.8mm) to 18 gauged (1mm) needle. The typical length to choose for your earring post is 6mm to 8mm long. It overall depends on your anatomy. Some may get a piercing higher or lower than others. And some Lobes may be thicker than others.

Pain

The process is quick and relatively painless. Ear Piercings often get compared to a sharp pinch. Expect small amounts of blood, so don’t worry if you see a little. To ensure a smooth experience, make sure to choose a reputable Piercer with proper hygiene standards. Remember that pain is different for every body!

Jewelry

Piercing studios typically use flat backed labret jewelry for initial Lobe Piercings. Piercers do not recommend Butterfly Backs or hoops. Once your Earlobe Piercing is fully healed, you can wear different kinds of jewelry! Flat back and Ball back Studs, Bendable Hoops, Clicker Rings, Captive Bead Rings and more! You can even start stretching your Earlobes to start wearing Plugs and larger gauged jewelry... if that's what you're into!

Variations

There are a few different Ear Piercing variations! Including 2nd Lobe, 3rd Lobe, and beyond! You can stack piercings on top of each other for a stacked Lobe look! You can get piercings besides each other too! There is no real rule on Ear Piercing variations. But if you have the right anatomy, you can make anything happen! Of course, with the help of a professional piercer! Want to attach your Tragus to your lobe with a chain?! No problem!

Earlobe Piercing Aftercare Tips

  •  Clean your new Lobe Piercing twice a day. Use Saline Spray Solution and avoid touching your new Piercing and jewelry.

  • If you need to touch, make sure your hands are clean and washed!

  • Wait until your Piercings fully heal before changing your jewelry. Patience is key!
    • Wipe away any crust that forms around the Piercings, but don’t pick at it! They will fall off naturally!

      • It's suggested to stay away from lakes, pools, oceans, etc., to minimize infection.

      • Don't remove your jewelry at night or while in the shower! You should keep your jewelry in for at least 6 weeks!

        • To minimize overall discomfort, avoid sleeping on your pierced side.

        • If you're in pain, a Cold Compress or a bit of ice can help! It can also help reduce swelling.

        • Eventually, if any redness, swelling, or unusual discharge occurs, consult your Piercer. Or consult a health care professional to prevent infection or Piercing Rejection.
