Belly Button Piercing Care Tips

Getting a Belly Button Piercing is an awesome way to express your style and individuality. The jewelry options for belly button rings are endless. One thing to keep in mind is that getting a belly button piercing is a commitment. It has one of the longest healing times of any piercing due to the navel tissue. It can take 9 months to a year to heal fully. Do not change your piercing until it is completely healed. Belly Button piercings also require the most aftercare due to the extended healing process. Here are tips for aftercare:

*Always wash your hands before touching your piercing. If, for any reason, someone else must touch your piercing, make sure their hands are washed as well.

*At least once a day, you should swab your piercing with a saline solution. The saline will prevent your piercing from getting infected. Make sure to use clean gauze or a saline solution-soaked paper towel. Gently dry the area after cleaning with a clean paper towel. Don’t over-clean your piercing. You can also use a piercing mist like the NeilMed we offer on our website. NeilMed is a piercing aftercare fine mist saline spray with a special mist tip is isotonic, drug free, preservative free, no burning or stinging. Sterile saline solution that cleanses minor wounds and scrapes without any burning or stinging. Sprays in any position, including when inverted.

*If any crust or blood is around your piercing, do not pick at it. It is completely normal for clear fluid to seep from your piercing. Let the crust come off naturally. This helps in the healing process. The only issue is the crust can be itchy or irritating. It is much better for the healing if you leave it be and let it flake off naturally.

*Never put perfume lotion or oils on your belly button. You also shouldn’t use hydrogen peroxide or antibacterial cream, as these may trap bacteria in your piercing.

*Make sure to wear clean, loose-fitting clothing that is soft. If you wear tight clothing that is rough, it will rub against your piercing and extend your healing time. If you must wear tight clothes that rub on your belly button, you can use an eye patch with an elastic bandage to cover your piercing.

*Stay clear of oceans, lakes, pools, showers, and hot tubs. It’s always best to avoid any water or moisture. Exposing your piercing to these areas may cause infection. If you must go in the water, you should wear a waterproof bandage over your piercing. It’s also recommended to avoid tanning for a few months in the beginning of your healing process.

*Signs of infection can be redness, green colored discharge, swelling, pain at the area of the piercing and fever.

Now that you are healed, you get to enjoy the best part, which is the shopping! 😊

What’s cool about having a belly button piercing is that the jewelry options are endless. You can really express your style and personality with the jewelry you choose. You can go from a super minimalist style to a sparkly showstopping piece.

There has been a resurgence of the belly button ring over the past few years. A lot of people thought the belly button ring trend had run its course, but it’s come back full swing. People are crediting young celebrities and the TikTok generation for this come back. Either way now is the perfect time to get that belly button ring you’ve been thinking about.
